The Fabulous Ruka Slopestyle, one of the most unique Freeski events in Europe, lived up to its big name! The riding and the atmosphere were more than fabulous at this year's edition of Finland's biggest Freeski Event with Sig Tveit from Norway taking the victory. The winning run included the biggest jump of the day a switch 900°mute and tech nical rail lines all executed with stylish simplicity.
"Klaus Finne, who won the comp last year, told me about the Fabulous Ruka and ever since I was looking forward to come here! It is so amazing over here, the atmosphere is great and the park is so much fun. Now I'm even more thrilled having won here!" Sig said after the prize giving. Last year's winner of the rookie event, Antti Ollila (FIN) secured second place this year with clean and stylish runs, a huge improvement for the 15 year old. Patrick Hollaus (AUT) finished third completing a successful weekend, "I had a great day yesterday during the Big Air Jam Session. I felt quite tired today in the training due to the darkness here. But as soon as the qualifications started I felt fit again and I'm so excited about making it to the podium here!"
Lauri Kivari (FIN) won the Rookies category ahead of Tuomas Säkkinen (FIN) and Kalle Hildén (FIN). The three kids clearly dominated with clean runs. Johanna Johannson (FIN) took first in the Girls category and followed closely by Saana Pehkonen (FIN) in second and Anni Kuortti (FIN) landing in the third.
The fourth edition of Fabulous Ruka Big Air and Slopestyle saw a huge growth from last year's event. A record number of 91 riders from 8 countries travelled to the darkness and cold of northern Finland. Fabulous Ruka is known to be a great stepping stone for rookies, the category was shut a week before the event due to record numbers of entrants. The local legend Santa Klaus made a cameo appearance and even threw a few relaxed backflips to please the crowds. The event finished late in the evening as the Christmas holiday times started with the annual "White" theme party.
