A young Argentine skier, Elwyn Roy Freeman, has passed away after a crash on September 24 at a Freeride World Qualifier event at La Hoya ski resort in his home country.

Snowbrains.com reported that Elwyn succumbed to severe chest injuries at a hospital in Esquel after colliding with rocks on the contest face at La Hoya.

The freeride scene has been growing in South America, with two new Freeride World Tour Qualifier events announced this season at Los Penitentes and Cerro Castillo.

“The FWT and IFSA are deeply saddened by the recent news of the tragic accident at the 2* FWQ La Hoya event and would like to extend their deepest condolences to the friends and family of Elwyn Roy Freeman as well as to the organizers of the event and to the staff of La Hoya Ski Resort,” read a post on the Freeride World Qualifier website.

Downdays also sends its deepest condolences to Elwyn’s family and friends.
