Heads up Salzburg-area shredders—due to excellent snow conditions, the glacier snowpark at Kitzsteinhorn is opening its gates this Saturday, 12 October for the fall season.

While they may not always get the same amount of press as certain other Austrian glacier parks, the dedicated crew around head shaper Martin Liebmann works hard to deliver a top-notch riding experience at Kitzsteinhorn. The Glacier Park, open from October until January, features Easy and Medium kicker lines as well as a jib line, but the real highlight might be the Superpipe. Shaped by Alli Zehetner, this 150 meter long, 22-foot pipe serves as an early-season training ground for international stars like David Wise, and many more who will come flocking for the Superpipe Training Weeks from 4 November to 1 December 2019.

The fall snowpark kicks off a full season of freestyle facilities at Kitzsteinhorn. Once the winter hits full swing, no less than four different snowparks spring up in the area, including a new addition this year, the Maisi Park at the Maiskogel, which will offer rail and funbox lines catering specifically to younger and entry-level riders.

Four main parks, plus the new Maisi Park, mean features for big and small alike from November till May.

With the “3K K-onnection”, a brand-new 12-kilometer cable car connecting Kitzsteinhorn with the nearby town of Kaprun and the Maiskogel lifts, opening on 30 November, all of this terrain is more accessible than ever before. Other highlight events like the WOW Glacier Festival (8-10 November 2019), World Rookie Tour Finals (31 March – 4 April 2020) and the Kitzsteinhorn Banked Slalom (25 April 2020) make for an action-packed schedule that runs until May—meaning that if you get on the slopes this weekend, you can enjoy an eight-month ski season.

Some Kitzsteinhorn videos to get you in the mood:

David Wise and other pipe pros make the journey to Kitz to get down in the pristine fall pipe.

Watch out for local boy Tom Ritsch tearing up the parks.

How did Ritches get his nasty style? Having a home park like Kitz must have helped.
