A distinctive bunch of freeskiers are standing in front of „The Wedge“. It’s Sölden’s newest beast of 2016, following a long tradition of giant media obstacles. We can bluntly hear their minds boggle like “that’s a bloody steep take-off”, “pretty massive hip” and “damn, I’ll rather go for a hundred speed checks before taking on that one”…
24m table, 9.2m of height, a take-off shooting you up to 40° – that’s Sölden’s monster feature of 2016, #TheWedge! Following the widely acclaimed “The X” of 2015, QParks project manager Sven Toller and QParks park designer Stefan Morocutti have been racking their brains for weeks to build something new, something different, something no one else has ever seen before. They eventually decided on combining a really big kicker, a smaller one (table 16m, take-off 45°) and a corner with a length of 19m and a take-off of 60°. “When we had do decide where to pile up ‘The Wedge’, we immediately thought about ‘Silberbrünnl’,” Sven Toller reflects. “In this talus slope, we were safe to build this massive obstacle with the snow of three avalanches”.
This fall, the QParks edit of “The Wedge” – featuring pros like Tom Granier, Ole Pavel, Tobias Müller and many more – will come to a video channel near you. Enjoy the freeski teaser and stay tuned for the real action!
