Level 1 Productions' teaser for their new film, Pleasure, does exactly what it should: it makes you want to watch this movie, real bad.

If there was a “Best Trailer” award category for ski movie companies, Level 1 Productions definitely would have collected a few by now. There’s just something about Level 1’s trailers that make them stick out from the pack. Is it the snappy, clever cuts blending location, lifestyle and action? The subtle humor and pathos conveyed by these film and editing decisions? Or the raw ski-cinematographic talent of the Level 1 crew, both in front of and behind the lens? If it’s up to me, I say: All of the above.

Here’s the fine print: Pleasure is Level 1 Production’s seventeenth (!) annual motion picture and will release in October. The cast features many Level 1 stalwarts (Will Wesson, Sämi Ortlieb, Tanner Rainville, Wiley Miller), while newer faces such as Superunknown winner Keegan Kilbride, The Bunch styler Per Peyben Hägglund, Ethan Swadburg and Jonah Williams won’t fail to disappoint.

“It feels good. Slamming into concrete walls, risking the backcountry unknown, being broke on the road… Some would call it hedonistic behavior, we call it living the dream, and this cast of characters delivers a vibrant depiction of this so-called sport of skiing,” reports Level 1’s always alt-poetic movie description, which this year seems a bit more toned down than usual. (Is Freedle finally running out of ideas?) “With a local tourist mentality, the simple joys are found near and far. From India, Switzerland and Japan, to British Columbia, Washington DC, and Alaska, it’s business in the front, party in the back, and no one is phoning it in. Level 1 continues to surprise with another must watch ski film in a lineage of classics, for your viewing PLEASURE.”

It seems almost a tradition now to wonder, a) which veteran Level 1 athlete will come out with a surprise up-the-ante, I’m-still-relevant banger segment; and b) which fresh-faced newcomer will drop the video part that the kids will remember for years to come?
