Two years after her first short film Skivas, the French freerider and former member of the French freestyle ski team, Coline Ballet-Baz, is back centre-stage with a new video project “Recipe”!

The thirty-year-old brought together an international -and again 100% female- cast for her second film. This includes, American and world freeride icon, Michelle Parker, with two fellow Americans, Taylor Lundquist -who started competing at just six years old- and X Games Gold Medalist, Maggie Voisin. The champions keep coming, with Olympic and X Games champion Sarah Hoefflin. Swede Jennie-Lee Burmansson -winner of the 2018 Ski Slopestyle World Cup, and the most French of New Zealand Riders, Margaux Hackett show their respective skills. The crew is completed with a couple of Coco’s fellow Frenchwomen; rookie Manon Loschi, who won her ticket to join the 2023 Freeride World Tour, and mountaineer/high-liner, Chloe Roux-Mollard.

The film features Freeride backcountry sessions in La Rosière, before they go to La Clusaz for the very first 100% female in the history of freeskiing! They even managed to squeeze in a street session in Salt Lake City…

As well as the skiing in “Recipe”, Coline has chosen to reveal all the beauty and power of the collective on a female shoot.  Throughout the film “Coco” asks some of her friends about their early careers, the feminine influences in their lives, whether being a woman could have been a hindrance for them in their journey, understanding what inspires them day after day in their chosen field or what makes the moments they experience in skiing so unique.

In this new 100% female project, Coline’s approach wasn’t just comparing men and women in the industry. She took the opportunity for everyone to open up about the physical and mental commitment required in filming, but also the fear, the risk and sometimes the inadequacy that everyone can experience but which is a subject perhaps less addressed by men.

At the end of its promotional tour and after receiving multiple nominations (Coco won Best Female Performance at High Fives) Recipe will be released on December 12 2022.

I’ve arranged to speak to Coco at iF3 Chamonix later this week, so I’ll have the full story of Recipe when it’s released.
