Salzburg County winter sports resort is getting ready for the 7th edition of the legendary Red Bull PlayStreets contest. On February 24th, 2017, the “who’s who” of the scene will show their daredevil tricks above the roofs of Bad Gastein again and wow thousands of spectators with their spectacular show. A new, additional part of the course will push the riders to their limits and provide this unique freestyle event with even more thrill in 2017.

After a year of waiting, the period of freestyle drought at Bad Gastein will finally end. The international freeskiing elite will return to Bad Gastein on February 24th, 2017, to push the envelope in the city centre again. The best freeskiers in the world will present their breathtaking tricks in front of 12,000 excited fans who enjoy free entry. The popular winter sports resort will turn into a “slopestyle metropolis” during the days before and after February 24th. Its time-honoured street canyons will deliver the perfect backdrop for this one-of-a-kind freestyle spectacle. The event is not only popular with the spectators but also with the riders who feel honoured to take part in Red Bull PlayStreets. For the 2017 edition, freeski heroes such as Russ Henshaw (AUS) have confirmed to come. The Australian is stoked being part of the special event again: “Red Bull Playstreets is the most fun event on the calendar for me. I have been to quite a few playstreets editions and everytime I hear it is happening again I’m stoked because I know how fun and unique the event is!“ Also the friendly Carinthian Freestyle-Pro Luca Tribondeau who dropped out in the quarterfinals of the 2015 event is looking forward to this spectacular competition in his home country: “I can’t wait to compete at Bad Gastein again and show the crowd my favourite tricks! This is really an extraordinary event that is unique in the world. Whenever I think of Red Bull PlayStreets, it puts a smile on my face. It’s incredibly nice for me to take part in an event that I already marvelled at when I was a child. It’s a dream come true to join in for the third time!”

2017 will definitely see one major change, as organizer Helmut Putz and his crew have planned a demanding modification in the set-up which will be an additional challenge for the riders and make the spectacular show even more attractive for the spectators. “The preparations are already in full swing. We will start to build the course in January. With our renewed set-up, we will have some surprises for the riders up our sleeves. For me as an organizer, it’s like coming home. I can’t wait to turn the place upside down again together with Red Bull and to hold a cool freeskiing event”, Helmut Putz is looking forward to the 2017 edition.

The images of the event are well known even beyond the borders of Salzburg County and have attracted visitors from far away to Gastein Valley. The kickers and rails of the course will be set up in the streets and on the roofs of the picturesque winter sports centre. Loads of action and exciting duels await the spectators. The winner will even get his own star on the legendary Red Bull PlayStreets “Wall of Fame”. The opportunity to get immortalised at Bad Gastein is more than enough stimulation for the riders to go all out. The side programme to the event is also very appealing: beginning with the disclosure of the star at the “Wall of Fame” on Wednesday, February 22nd, and the following party at Silver Bullet, and continuing with countless side events at the surrounding bars, Red Bull PlayStreets promises one week full of parties at Bad Gastein!
