The exciting climax of the 2018 Freeride World Tour season is on its way as the legendary freeride contest Xtreme Verbier kicks off March 31-April 8.
After four hard-fought tour stops in Japan, Canada, Andorra and Austria, the Freeride World Tour wraps up next week with its traditional final stop on the imposing Bec de Rosses venue in Verbier as part of the Xtreme Verbier event.
On the ski men’s side, Kristofer Turdell—who just sustained a knee injury and won’t be skiing—has already accrued enough points to claim the overall tour title for 2018 without needing to compete in Verbier. So the men will battle for the second and third positions, currently occupied by Markus Eder and Loic Collomb-Patton. On the women’s side, Arianna Tricomi currently leads the pack, pursued by Eva Walkner and Hazel Birnbaum.
As always, the event livestream will be shown on freerideworldtour.com, redbull.tv and embedded here at Downdays, and we’ll keep you up-to-date on which day the contest will take place.

Courmayeur is proud to announce the 10th edition of Click on the mountain. Established in 2009, the inaugural film and photo freeride competition has come a long way and does not plan to slow down!
Starting on 5th of March, four international teams will come together in Courmayeur to crown the best amongst them. Each team has three days time to produce a portfolio of photos and a short movie, of which both have to follow the topics of “Curiosity & Freedom”.
Professional free riders, filmers and photographers will once more storm the mountains of Aosta valley to produce the most stunning content that can be collected in 96 hours.
The task is clear: go out there, ride and shoot as much as you can and come back with a short movie and a set of 10 pictures. The south side of Europe’s highest mountain offers what every freerider is dreaming of: vast amounts of snow, open powderfields, steep and rocky descents and playful forests – all gathered around the picturesque town of Courmayeur.

The 4 international teams will have to choose wisely, where to go: one day will be spent in the resort of Courmayeur, one day up on SkyWay Monte Bianco and one day flying into the backcountry with the Helicopters of GMH Heliskiing. Safety takes top priority: that’s why four members of the Società Guide Alpine di Courmayeur will accompany the teams during the competition.
For the first time ever, Click on the mountain welcomes female rider: Giulia Monego from Italy! Together with Canadian skier Sophie Lechasseur she will for an all-female team, followed by photographer Klaus Polzer and filmer Flo Albert.
Coming all the way from Scandinavia, Team Sweden will bring Nordic flair to Courmayeur: It may be the first visit to the Mont Blanc area for Skiers William Larsson, Erik Lundmark, photographer Adam Klingeteg and filmer Sebastian Oden Sandbland – but as “Curiosity & Freedom” is the 2018 topic this surely is a 100% fit!
Monster Energy once again trusts in the power of Simon Gruber who will be joined by Italian ripper Marco Grigis, being followed by Roberto Bragotto (photo) and Kevin Kok (film).

The prize giving will take place on March 10th at the Maserati Mountain Lounge, at 7PM in Central Courmayeur. Don’t miss this, as all four teams will present the outcome of their hard work!
