Since its inception, the Suzuki Nine Knights & Queens events have served as a platform enabling the best freeskiers—and eventually snowboarders—to develop and capture their most creative and technical riding. In the spring of 2017 the Knights and Queens will unite for the very first time in picturesque Watles, South Tyrol in Italy, to form the Suzuki Nine Royals. The invited female and male professional athletes will progress themselves and their sports on a huge snow castle for a week of photo and film shoots, beginning on the 27th of March and culminating with the Public Contest day on April 1st, 2017.

The Suzuki Nine Queens and Suzuki Nine Knights unite to become the Suzuki Nine Royals
The Suzuki Nine Knights began in 2008 as a progressive men’s freeski event; in 2011 the Suzuki Nine Queens was conceived to provide women their own progression platform. Three years later snowboarding was added to the ever-evolving concept.

Longtime Queen Kjersti Østgaard Buaas reiterates the success of the unique concept,
The vibes are so good; the riders’ safety, wishes and needs are always prioritized. You truly feel like a royal! I’m stoked to be able to feed off the new energy and creativity while riding the same feature as the guys.
David Wise, who broke the Highest Hip Air World Record at the last edition of Suzuki Nine Knights, agrees,
I have experienced first hand the unique vibes that the men and women contributed to an event like this. The ladies tend to be a little more creative and the guys tend to be a little more reckless so this year’s going to be really fun and interesting.

The Nine Royals Castle Feature
The new Royals Castle is specifically designed for the occasion and includes two massive big air kickers, two hips, countless transition options, redirects and jib options. Stay tuned for more information on the Suzuki Nine Royals, the event that will produce jaw-dropping imagery while propelling the limits of skiers and snowboarders of both genders to the next level.

Here’s a brief recap of what the 2016 tour has on offer.

“Ruin and Rose” from MSP Films is an epic creative vision brought to life by the world’s best freeriders including Markus Eder, Bene Mayr and Fabio Studer. The most beautiful winter landscapes on Earth are stitched seamlessly together with incredible scenes from Africa’s Skeleton Coast, one of the planet’s oldest landscapes. Unlike anything you’ve seen before, the setting of this film brings fantasy to life, and not just for sports enthusiasts.
With their creative short films “Charakters on Skis” and “Daheem,” Midiafilm and Hanno Mackowitz bring us local riders’ passion for freeride. You don’t have to travel far to find it.
The tour stops guarantee brilliant image quality in full HD, breathtaking 5.1 sound and comfortable seating in selected cinemas in Austria, Germany and Italy. Headliners include top productions like Anthill Films, Bergkult Productions, Timeline Missions and MSP Films, while local productions like the IF3 Am Award winner Midiafilm, Alpsolut Moving Pictures and Hanno Mackowitz show the passion for sport, nature, travel and adventure. In addition, this year’s tour program also includes the best online clips that’ve earned more than just a click.

“Not2Bad” from Anthill Films shows what happens when some of the world’s best riders spend 30 days trying to discover everything that’s possible on two wheels.
“Cedarwood Trails” in an investigative sport documentary. Axel Kreuter and Sylvia Leimbruger travel deep into Africa to a trail-riding paradise with a disquieting side.
The short films “DreamRide,” “Ultra Romance” and “Pedal to Peaks” each bring their own special something to the screen.

“Heimschnee” from Bergkult Productions follows a five-person group on their pursuit of a lifestyle beyond the bounds of society’s conventions. A ski, snowboard and alpine film of a different kind, filmed exclusively in Tyrol.
In “La Liste,” Swiss freeride great Jérémie Heitz chases a list of his greatest challenges: ski descents on the Alps’ most spectacular 4,000-meter peaks that show these mountains’ histories in a new light.
“The Art of Climbing” from Red Bull Athletes Special Projects combines Kilian Fischhuber’s spectacular climbing project in the Rätikon region with watercolor painting, showing why climbing is continually viewed as an art form.
Tickets are available on location in the participating theaters as well as online. Tour dates and more information are available at www.alp-con.net/cinematour. “Like” the Alp-Con Facebook page to keep informed!
