Sandra Lahnsteiner, the multi-talent filmmaker & freeskier from Salzburgerland, who is also the athletic coach for alpine skiing’s Olympic champion Anna Veith, offers a platform for outdoor enthusiasts called Shades of Winter. “Of course we want to fan the flame with the films,” explains the 38-year-old entrepreneur, “but most of all, we want to share our experiences and adventures, exchange views with like-minded people and show that everything is possible.”
This five-stop tour will be a great opportunity to see a variety of the latest winter and action sports films during the two and a half-hour program, before they are distributed more widely throughout the 2019 winter.

Lahnsteiner puts her experience and enthusiasm at the centre of the program at the first Shades of Winter FilmFest. After the prelude in the Swedish capital, Lahnsteiner, will talk about her experience and adventures in front of and behind the camera, at the tour stops in Munich, Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck, together with the leading athletes of the presented films.
“I’ve had the idea for the FilmFest for a while ago, but the final motivation hit me quite spontaneously. Fortunately, I know many projects of various athletes and they were all excited about the opportunity to present their work,“ says Lahnsteiner, who has two #shadesofwinter short films in the line-up with COUPLES and CONNECTS, “our focus is clearly on the documented adventures and the quality of the films and I am truly excited to share the big screen with all the amazing films from athletes across the globe.”
COUPLES, showcases Olympic champion Julia Mancuso (USA), Janina Kuzma (NZL), 5th in the halfpipe in Sochi 2014, Sandra Lahnsteiner (AUT) and their partners, seeing them step into the athletes shoes in Canada at Stellar Heliskiing for the first time; two-time freeride world champion Nadine Wallner(AUT) at the Vienna premiere of NOW OR NEVER talks about her intimate relationship with the mountains and Lorraine Huber (AUT), also Freeride World Tour overall winner, explores the fine line between risk, motivation and rationality together with the sisters Anna and Nat Segal (AUS) in FINDING THE LINE and many more – the compilation of the 2018 program is based on the international network of Shades of Winter.
At every stop of the first Shades of Winter FilmFest, there will be eight to ten movies between five and 25 minutes in length, filmed on location and with protagonists from three continents will be shown. In all five cities, visitors can expect an interactive evening, in which, in addition to the magnificent pictures on the screen, the heroines – among others Julia Mancuso, Nadine Wallner and Lorraine Huber, Janina Kuzma, Evelina Nilsson, Caja Schöpf, Hedvig Wessel, Arianna Tricomi and Sandra Lahnsteiner – allow the audience a look behind the scenes and answer questions following the film.
