New Zealand Style: The Jossi Wells Invitational Is Back

By: Ethan Stone September 15, 2018

Last week the Jossi Wells Invitational returned to the slushy spring park mecca of Cardrona, New Zealand.
Now in its third year, the event attracted a heavy-hitting and eclectic mix of skiers and snowboarders. With a new three-day format including a rail jam, a 75ft big air jump and a custom modified mini-pipe, this year’s event was rider judged with an emphasis on overall performance.

“I’ve always been a big fan of riding everything,” said a fired-up Jossi as he watched over the crew hiking rails on the first day. “Whether it’s park, or rails, or halfpipe. The whole thing is to be able to come and just rip everything, and at the end of the week there will be overall places for each division, and then a King of the Mountain kinda thing.”

“I think by the riders list you can kind of see what this event is all about. There’s a lot of guys here that don’t compete anymore, there’s guys who have never competed, you’ve got Olympic gold medalists here, X-Games gold medalists—it’s a really eclectic group of guys and girls. All the people who are here I have admired their riding over the years, so to have all these guys from overseas come down here and support this event, I feel really honoured and blessed to have that support from the whole crew.”
