Andrzej Bargiel completes historic oxygen-free ski descent of Everest

September 26, 2025

Red Bull athlete Andrzej Bargiel has pulled off another monumental first: a complete ski descent of Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen.

After climbing for nearly 16 hours in the notorious “death zone,” Bargiel clicked into his skis on the 8,849-meter summit on September 22. He descended via the South Col route, skiing to Camp II before stopping overnight. The next morning, he continued through the treacherous Khumbu Icefall, reaching Everest Base Camp safely.

The 37-year-old Pole was already the only person to ski from the summits of all Karakoram 8,000ers without bottled oxygen—including the first full ski descent of K2 in 2018. Now he’s added Everest to that list, becoming the first in history to do it oxygen-free.

The documentary will be released in 2026.
