Juliette Willmann has tragically lost her life in an avalanche in Argentina

October 03, 2026

At the age of 29, Juliette Willmann has tragically lost her life in an avalanche in Argentina, according to the French Ski Federation. The French freerider had been travelling and ski touring for several weeks in Patagonia with her partner, mountain guide Pierre-Idris Mehdi, who survived the avalanche. The accident occurred on 29 September in Cerro Crestón, near El Chaltén, in Patagonia, Argentina.

Juliette grew up in the southern French Alps before moving to Chamonix to pursue a career in freeride, embracing her passion for the mountains. After winning the Freeride World Qualifier in 2018, Juliette broke onto the Freeride World Tour in 2019 where she enjoyed four successful years. In 2021, she finished fourth overall including two second place finishes in Andorra.

Juliette stepped away from the FWT in 2022 to spend more time in the mountains on her own terms, focusing on freeskiing, ski mountaineering and documentary filmmaking. Her decision reflected a desire to explore the mountains beyond competition, something she continued to do with the same enthusiasm that had defined her competitive career.

The freeride community is in mourning, with moving tributes pouring in from across the mountain world. Those who followed Juliette’s career will remember not only her ability on a pair of skis, but her passion for the mountains, her fun-loving personality and her sense of humour.

The French mountain community has lost one of its brightest, and the wider freeride family has lost someone who brought an unmistakable energy and joy to the sport.

Our thoughts are with Juliette’s family, loved ones, friends and everyone who had the privilege of sharing time with her in the mountains.

Rest in powder, Juliette.
