If you missed watching The Bunch’s 2017 release Interpretation last year, rejoice: it’s now online for free. Even if you did see it already, it’s good for a rewatch or three — there’s enough new tricks and ideas in these 28 minutes to keep you busy for at least a few ski seasons. By that time, The Bunch will have probably already landed on Mars.
As its title suggests, Interpretation is open to it. It’s an immersive experience, a collection of meaningful or meaningless symbols—an introduction to the iconography of The Bunch. Plus, of course, a whole lot of insane skiing that might only be fully comprehensible if you exist on a different ethereal plane.
In one poignant, recurring shot, a group of five men labor to push a boat across an ice-chocked river. What are they doing out there anyway? Where are they headed? Is it business or pleasure? Will they reach their destination safe and sound? Are they a symbol for The Bunch? It’s up to interpretation.
