Rock A Rail goes off in Thun

By: Scott Naismith October 14, 2025

After kicking off in Hintertux, the Rock A Rail Tour 2025 rolled into Thun, Switzerland last weekend for its second tour stop.

This year marked the 5th edition of the Freestyle Roots Festival, a celebration of freestyle culture with BMXing and skating alongside the Rock A Rail streetstyle set up. With over 8000 people turning up across the weekend, the city was buzzing with the community energy that Rock A Rail has made its calling card.

Women’s Ski Final

In the women’s final, Ellen Damsgaard (DEN) took home her first Rock A Rail win with a rock-solid showing across the board. Ellen brought a smooth, locked-in approach, making good use of the course, hitting multiple different features. A high consequence front swap on the down bar and her front 270 out of the C-rail was enough to seal victory.

French rider Lou Carraz claimed second place, her best result at Rock A Rail to date. “The vibe was so nice. The set up is fun, but a couple of riders—including myself— had some bad crashes in training, so for sure it is a bit scary. I would love to have more time to ride it again and get more tricks down—but that’s the way it goes in comps.” Lou continued, “I won a wildcard to the Riga event, but I am told the set up is different there, so the next time I might get a chance to ride this set up will be in The Hague—if I make it!”

Anouck Brodard held it down for the Swiss crowd, rounding out the podium in third.

Men’s Ski Final

The men’s field brought heavy heat with an international roster and no shortage of bangers. Tyler Nicholls (IRL) was the standout, putting on a clinic of clean execution, with crazy technicality. His left 450 pretzel front 270 was a thing of beauty and to mirror it with a switch right 270 pretzel front 450 out put himself beyond reach. His full use of the set up and variety of tricks impressed the judges as he walked away with win.

Homegrown talent Nils Rhyner (SUI) kept the local crowd fired-up with a strong second-place performance, mixing rail control with creativity. Jérémy Boiston (FRA) landed in third after a solid showing of precise rail tricks and smooth style.

Returning 2024 Thun champion Michael Oravec (SVK) might not have made the podium this time, but he still left a mark with the Best Trick of the night: a massive lip on back 630 out of the top rail—a crowd-favorite moment that pushed the envelope of what’s possible in this set up.

With two stops down, the tour next rolls onto to Innsbruck for a showdown in the freeski capital of Europe.
