Two very different and very awesome freeski videos came out yesterday. Which was your favorite?
Okay, this is getting a bit ridiculous. We all know that there’s a lot of ski videos online, but it’s getting to the point where not even the super-pros can manage to find a day to post an awesome new video without colliding with one of their peers. Yesterday was “one of those days” (no pun intended) when Candide Thovex dropped his new, 100-percent no-snow Audi ad, and Swedish trickster Jesper Tjäder came out with “Unrailistic,” his unbelievable box and rail edit.
So which one did you like better? Here are two of our editors’ opinions.
David: Jesper’s crazy rail park and acrobatic stunts are impressive, but he leaves the style at home. Candide surpasses by far his Swedish challenger with an innovative project that captures the imagination of the pubic with an exceptional one-of-a-kind experience. Jesper skis in a park space with great talent, indeed, and with big new tricks, yes, but Candide’s vision of skiing without snow is the more incredible visual experience. There’s no comparison.
Ethan: Wait a minute, was that a cork 900 swap? Let me go watch again to make sure. Okay, I’m back, and yes it was. Let me just put this out there: I’m not the biggest fan of fun-box stuntsmanship, but Jesper’s “Railtastic” is just crazy enough—and includes enough awesome rails, too—to make it not matter that most of the truly WTF tricks take place on boxes. Some may criticize Jesper’s acrobatic style, but there’s no doubt that the creativity and inventiveness is there too. As for Candide, his off-snow skiing skills are certainly impressive—but for me, snow kind of plays a crucial role in the whole “skiing” thing. Nice stunt, but nothing to get too excited about.
