Alex Hall and Mathilde Gremaud secure their Big Air crystal globes at Tignes

The big air kicker in Tignes looked perfect, the crowd was hyped and everybody threw down. Hopes were high for the local big air champ Tess Ledeux, but it wasn’t her who ended up in the spotlight tonight. Mathilde put down a carved dub 12 safety out of the gate in her first run and followed it up with a switch dub 10, securing her a well-deserved victory lap in the third run. The battle for second place was decided by half a point in favor of Liu Mengting representing China, who stomped two back-to-back dub 10 safeties. She was followed closely by the 16-year-old Italian Flora Tabanelli with a dub 12 safety and a switch left bio 9 mute. Other highlights included Rell Harwood‘s perfect dub 12 mute and Anni Karava‘s stylish dub 10, which they unfortunately weren’t able to back up with a solid second score, leaving them out of the podium.

This is the sixth World Cup gold for Mathilde this season, giving her a chance to become the first woman to win three crystal globes in one season: Big Air, Slopestyle and Overall.

The men put down an absolute show for the crowd as well. Not even the snow coming in towards the end was able to cool down the heat. Alex Hall came out on top with his signature right dub 10 safety pullback to 9 and a switch left tail butter dub 18 lead japan. He was trailed by Norwegian up-and-comer Leo Landroe, who was sitting in first place until the very end with a switch triple 16 mute and triple 18 mute. Third place went to the machine Andri Ragettli and his signature switch dub misty 16 buick and a dub 18 cuban.

One of the highlights of the night was undeniably Matěj Švancer, who was awarded fourth place for his wizardry: dub 10 japan pull back to 9 off the noses and a tokyo drift double lincoln japan pullback. He definitely didn’t make it easy for the judges, but we’re hyped to finally see this rewarded. Seeing 18s mixed with tricks like Elias Syrja‘s switch tailbutter 12 blunt (properly proper) makes Big Air is so much fun to watch these days. Ahall’s third win this season got him the well deserved crystal globe and a second place in the overall freeski ranking just behind Alex Ferreira dominating the halfpipe side of things. Both Matilde and Alex are also big favorites in  tomorrow’s slopestyle happening at 11am. Tune in!
