Stop by the Peak Performance website or selected retailers this fall, and your eye might be caught by the Helium Utility FLO jacket. After all, it's a piece that's kind of hard to miss.
With eight unique appearances in a patchwork style, the Helium Utility FLO doesn’t look like most down jackets you’ve seen before. That has a very good reason: Every single limited-edition jacket is made from surplus fabric scraps.
Here’s the deal: Peak Performance had plenty of scraps lying around its factory from the other models in its Helium line of lightweight down jackets. Rather than toss them out, the design team decided to tackle this challenge in an unconventional way — by reusing them in a totally new model.
“The Helium Utility FLO project presented us with a unique challenge. We wanted to make the best use of available resources and create something very special. It became a mathematical puzzle, but the end result exceeded our expectations.”
-Magdalena Gelander, Peak Performance product developer
The result is the Helium Utility FLO, with a fill power of 850 (90% goose down, 10% feathers), a Responsible Down certification (RDS), and 100-percent recycled polyamide. Not to mention a good story to tell when you roll up to the après bar rocking this thing.
The Helium Utility FLO sells for 3200 krona (about €268) on PEAK PERFORMANCE’S WEBSITE, and can also be found in select retail locations.
