Knowing how to ski powder is one thing. Knowing when not to ski it is arguably more important. Peak Performance is hoping to help with both through Get Alpine Ready, a new mountain education platform combining online videos with in-person clinics.
Knowing how to ski powder is one thing. Knowing when not to ski it is arguably more important. Peak Performance is hoping to help with both through Get Alpine Ready, a new mountain education platform combining online videos with in-person clinics.
The series brings together freeride athletes Elisabeth Gerritzen and Henrik Windstedt with UK mountain safety specialists Avalanche Geeks, covering the knowledge and decision-making that go into a day in the backcountry.
The YouTube series consists of three episodes, following the team through the process of preparing for and navigating the alpine environment. Topics include kit selection and layering, transceiver use, probing and shovelling, moving through complex terrain, group communication and, crucially, knowing when to call it a day.

Beyond YouTube, Peak Performance is taking Get Alpine Ready into the real world with mountain education clinics and lectures, aiming to reach more than 5,000 skiers worldwide. The idea is to give people access to athletes, guides and mountain professionals, helping them build their knowledge and figure out what training they need next.
And an important caveat: these videos and clinics aren’t a replacement for a proper avalanche course. Think of them as a useful starting point, not a shortcut to backcountry expertise.
