In 2014 JP Auclair and Andreas Fransson perished in an avalanche on Monte San Lorenzo on the Chile-Argentina border. The dual loss of Auclair, a freeskiing legend and Armada Skis co-founder, and Fransson, a modern steep skiing pioneer, was a major blow to the sport. Every year since then, JP’s friends and family have honored his legacy with the JP Memorial, a freewheeling celebration of life that’s always chock full of mute backflips, quarterpipes, 20-year-old skis, classic film cameras and nothing but good vibes.

This year in light of the “new normal,” the JP Memorial has moved online! Armada Skis dropped this recap of previous memorial sessions, and continues to roll out more of JP’s classic segments on the Armada YouTube channel, plus extras like a Zoom meet-n-greet and a ski giveaway. JP may be gone, but his memory is alive and well in sessions like this, in projects he founded like Alpine Initiatives, and indeed, anytime somebody tweaks a mute grab.
