What happened to the ski bums? We know they’re out there somewhere, doing what they’ve always done. Yet the bards singing the praises of old-fashioned, simple ski-bum culture seem few and far between these days — their beckons drowned out by the incessant attention-seeking of daily dose social-media self-promoters and purveyors of the modern luxury ski experience. Or to put it more simply: the ski bums are still out there, but can’t be bothered to update you about it on Instagram. (There might not even be WiFi at the crash pad, imagine that.)
In this spirit, we’re glad to present this short film “The Weatherman.” Meet Jules-G. Germain and Nick Gosselin, aka The Loners, who have retreated to a humble shack in Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains in pursuit of the simpler life of human-access powder skiing, And because it’s Quebec, there’s a visit to the local snowpark as well. Enjoy this pleasant little slice of life from beyond the beaten path — we sure did.
