The French riders dominated the STUBAI FREESKI OPEN 2016: Antoine Adelisse (FRA) and Coline Ballet-Baz (FRA) were the winners at the premiere of the new slopestyle event at Stubai Glacier.

Stubai Zoo Snowpark greeted the riders with perfect conditions for the finals. After changing conditions over the week, the sun smiled down on Stubai Glacier on Sunday. “Over the last five days, we had to deal with the whims of nature, but the athletes stayed really motivated. For the first competition of the season, the level was by far higher than expected,” Eric Flatscher, one of the organizers, said. The plan to hold the first event of the winter at Stubai Zoo right after the end of the season preparations worked well. More than 120 riders from 19 nations joined in. The STUBAI FREESKI OPEN was rated as FIS Slopestyle European Cup and AFP (Association of Freeskiing Professionals) bronze-level event.

Men’s: Adelisse takes the win

With a strong performance, French rider Antoine Adelisse took 84.25 points. He was not only crowned champion of the STUBAI FREESKI OPEN but also got a wild card for the Red Bull Playstreets contest at Bad Gastein, Austria, on  February 24, 2017. One point back, Lukas Müllauer (AUT) took second place. The local from Saalfelden, Salzburg County, stuck a Switch Double Cork 900 Safety, Double Cork 1080 Mute, and Right Flatspin 900 Safety. Third place went to Mees van Lierop (NED) with 80 points.

“The contest went really well and was perfectly organized,” Lukas Müllauer said at the prize-giving. “The set-up at Stubai Glacier is definitely cool, the kickers and rails are awesome. We had strong competition. Today, at the finals, the weather was nice, so I’m happy, my run was fine!” Lukas Müllauer and the Austrian team will spend the week training at Stubai Glacier before they head to the FIS Big Air World Cup at Mönchengladbach (GER).

Women’s: Ballet-Baz beats her compatriot Barin

In the absence of World Slopestyle Champion Lisa Zimmermann (GER), who had to cancel her start due to illness, Coline Ballet-Baz from France took first place at the STUBAI FREESKI OPEN women’s competition. Delivering a Switch Cork 540, 720 Stalefish, and Right Cork 720, the judges awarded her 76.25 points. Second place also went to France: Lou Barin took 52 points. Anastasiya Tatalina (RUS) got third with 48.25 points. “It was just great to ride this snowpark”, Coline Ballet-Baz said. “I’m very happy about this victory, especially as all the girls rode on a very high level.”

The representatives of Stubai Glacier were also happy with the new event, which they plan to hold again next year. “We’re delighted we could support the young freestylers with the Stubai Freeski Open. Next year, we want to take the event to the next level,” Alexandra Engels, responsible for snowpark marketing at Stubai Glacier, said. “120 participants, this is a figure that speaks for itself. Stubai Zoo Snowpark has established itself as a top freestyle destination. An international competition such as STUBAI FREESKI OPEN confirms its value.“
