Having seen a gaping hole in the freeski scene – and frustrated by the lack of action to fill it – Taylor Brooke-Lundquist single-handedly dragged freeskiing forward with her groundbreaking event, TBL Sessions.
Despite the $30,000 in prize money, the event was so much more than just a competition to hand out well-deserved cash. TBL Sessions succeeded in empowering a community and driving a shift in the culture towards inclusivity and equal representation – setting new benchmarks across the board.
Drawing inspiration from Jess Kimura’s event, “The Uninvited Invitational” and Jib League (which only included a female category this season – no hate, this a step in the right direction), Taylor has championed the abundant, underrepresented talent of female and non-binary skiers by giving these riders a platform and so much more.
This recap edit challenges the gender disparity in skiing and the level of riding earnestly merits the prize money. The edit has some of the heaviest tricks, by the best riders on the planet, that represent the full spectrum of styles and approaches from across the community – it goes hard.
This is core freeskiing and everything the scene needed. This is only the first year and it’s imperative that TBL Sessions is here to stay.
