Copenhagen gears up for the fifth edition of the Scandinavian Team Battle

By: Ethan Stone June 04, 2025

Who would have thought that the artificial ski slope winding its way down a Copenhagen power station would become a freeski hub? But thanks in part to the Scandinavian Team Battle organized annually by local skier Jakob Ebskamp, that’s exactly what CopenHill, one of the world’s most unique slopes, has become.

The Scandinavian Team Battle celebrates its fifth edition on June 14. This year, a brand-new guest team from France will throw its hat into the ring alongside Team Denmark, Team Norway, Team Sweden and Team Finland.

Sweden has crushed the competition in recent years, thanks in no small part to the antics of Jesper Tjäder—who was one of the first riders to put out a clip back when CopenHill first opened. With Jesper out this year due to an injury, his teammate Emil Granbom has tapped Joel Magnusson to join the squad—but the other teams will doubtless be hungry to break the Swedes’ winning streak.

Scandinavian Team Battle is more than just skiing on plastic—it's a celebration of the culture, the city, and the local community. I couldn’t be more stoked to welcome this level of talent to my home city. This year is going to be next level.

Scandinavian Team Battle: The Format

The game is in the name: The event is a team battle featuring riders from the four Scandinavian countries, plus the occasional guest team from other countries. The teams are made up of two riders each, and they ride the setup at once—a format that encourages creativity, teamwork and crowd-pleasing stunts. As for the crowd, a frothy crew of Danes lines the edge of the slope, cheering on the teams.

This year’s edition features a new event: an open qualifier that takes place on the same day as the main event. The qualifier is free to enter, and the two top performers will advance to the afternoon finals, competing against the invited riders in their own two-person team.

If you’re around Copenhagen on June 14, don’t miss the chance to partake in this one-of-a-kind freeski happening. Spectating is free, so swing by to watch the contest and check out the one-day festival, with food stands, bars, pop-up shops and other activities. Or, if you’re keen to show your skills, grab those skis off the wall and enter the qualifiers. Who knows—maybe you’ll be the next Team Battle champ!
