CORE SHOTS is a new series from Downdays documenting the daily life of our favorite freeskiers. In Episode 2, we head from Champéry to Avoriaz on a border-crossing journey with Sampo Vallotton.

Raised in the hills of the Swiss Riviera on the shore of Lac Léman, Sampo is best known for his segments with the Buldozlife crew. Whether in the street, the park or in the backcountry, Sampo can throw down with the best of them—in other words, just the kind of skier we want to show in CORE SHOTS!

After paying a visit to Sampo’s home, we booted up in Champéry in Région Dents du Midi—the Swiss side of the massive ski resort complex known as Portes du Soleil. After taking a peek at Champéry’s famous “Swiss Wall,” we hopped the border into France to check out the natural terrain and snowparks of Avoriaz.
