Gear Spotlight: Ortovox’s new Ravine freeride series

Progressive design meets innovative materials in the new collection from Ortovox.

The German outerwear and safety equipment manufacturer Ortovox enjoys a special place in the hearts and minds of many freeriders. Their designs for outerwear and insulation layers have enjoyed huge success in recent years—while pioneering initiatives like their sourcing of wool from within Europe have made them a leader in more sustainable production techniques.

At Ortovox, winter 2025/26 is all about freeriding. The brand has launched a new product concept for the season: The versatile Ravine Series, which combines modern design with a casual cut while featuring smart new wool insulation and more sustainable materials.

Ravine Plus 3L Jacket and Pants

The Plus 3L jacket and pants are built for pure, uncompromising performance in the backcountry. The breathable Ravine 3L fabric protects agains the elements, while merino wool inserts on the chest and back provide warmth and comfort for those chilly powder days. Technical features like ventilation zippers, a double-adjustable helmet-compatible hood, a removable snow skirt and an adjustable hem help to dial in the Ravine Plus 3L jacket to your preferred fit.

The Ravine Plus 3L Pants feature an adjustable waistband that’s higher in the back, merino wool inserts for warmth and integrated gaiters.

In a nutshell: The Ravine Plus 3L kit is Ortovox’s top-flight freeride outerwear offer for the season, combining high-performance technical materials with added merino insulation and a relaxed fit.

Ravine Free 3L Jacket & Pants

The Ravine Free 3L Jacket & Pants feature a streamlined design that’s more lightweight than their bigger brothers, the Ravine Plus 3L, while sacrificing little in terms of performance. The insulation isn’t quite as robust in the Free 3L, resulting in a weight reduction of over 100 grams in both the jacket and the pants. Otherwise, the level of protection is the same, with an innovative polyamide outer layer that features 51% material recycled from fishing nets.

Ravine Metawool 90 Jacket

Ortovox has always had a strong game in the layering department, and the Ravine Metawool 90 Jacket continues that trend. Its innovative 90 g/m2 Metawool filling with 80% wool from German merino sheep will keep you warm on even the coldest days, while the rip-resistant, windproof and 100% recycled polyamide outer material protects against the whims of the weather. This highly functional insulation layer offers an optimal balance between weight and insulation and packs small—making it an ideal companion for demanding freeriders.

The DownWool 270 Jacket is built for harsh conditions, high-output activities, and cold, wet weather. Its innovative DownWool® insulation blends 70% down with 30% wool, actively managing moisture while delivering reliable warmth—even when damp or during intense sweating. A windproof, water-repellent Pertex® Quantum Pro shell, adjustable hood, cuffs, and hem provide strong weather protection. Recycled wool padding at the sides and underarms ensures freedom of movement, while roomy pockets and a secure chest pocket complete this versatile freeride-ready jacket.

Fleece Cord Longsleeve & Hoodie

From deep powder days to van-life evenings, the Fleece Cord Longsleeve delivers cozy warmth and all-day comfort on any backcountry adventure. A breathable blend of fine merino wool and textile-to-textile recycled polyester creates a soft, cord-structured feel against the body. Free Rider Backpack

The Free Rider is a versatile backcountry pack built for freeriding. The roll-top design allows quick volume adjustment, while a full back-panel zipper provides fast, organized access to the main compartment. Multiple storage options include a separate dry compartment, side pocket, shoulder pocket, and a valuables pocket. Made from durable, solvent-free PU-coated 400D ripstop fabric, the pack is built to last. Freeride-specific features include a dedicated avalanche safety compartment, shoulder-strap radio attachment, and external carry options for skis, ice axe, helmet, and rope.
