At the southernmost tip of Argentina, at the foot of the Martial Glacier, the first test event for a Backcountry Invitational outside of Europe took place last week.
Set to a stunning backdrop, a team of local volunteers worked tirelessly over five days to shape the event. Riders from all over Argentina took the start alongside Kendall Goodman, Olivier Gagnon and Jake Müller.
The format was similar to the mother event in Nendaz, whereby a freeride face is enhanced with hand-built features for the riders to let loose on. Despite the clearly challenging conditions, the skiers still threw down on what looked like a brilliant day.
“The Backcountry Invitational test event in Ushuaia was one of the coolest contest experiences I’ve ever had. I’m so stoked and grateful to have been a part of this inaugural edition and can’t wait to see what the Backcountry Invitational has in store for next year” – Kendall Goodman
The second Backcountry Invitational test event will take place at Treble Cone, New Zealand, with the weather window opening on August 25th.
