The next stop on our tour of resorts around Innsbruck, the Freeride City, is Axamer Lizum.

Host of almost all of the alpine ski events during the 1964 Olympics, Axamer Lizum is tucked into the imposing rocky crags of the Kalkkögel range to the southwest of Innsbruck. Just a half-hour drive from the city center, Axamer offers some of the more rowdy freeride skiing in the region, including bucket-list couloirs through the Kalkkögel spires.

Axamer Lizum is a favorite of Innsbruck transplant Neil Williman, who filmed there extensively for his 2018 movie “Working Volks Freeride.” Read Neil’s tips on skiing Axamer and other resorts in the region in our guide to Innsbruck.
