HEAD is a leading global provider of premium, high-performance equipment and apparel for athletes and players, at all levels. Since our launch in 1950, we’ve achieved a reputation for cutting-edge design, engineering excellence and a passion for championing all sport, everywhere. World-class performance demands the very best equipment and that’s why, at HEAD, our purpose is to give athletes and players at every level exactly what they need to win.
Aaron Blunck is a three-time U.S. Olympic halfpipe skier, X Games gold medalist and FIS Freestyle World Champion. After sustaining six broken ribs, a broken pelvis, lacerated kidney and bruised heart and lung while skiing in in Switzerland, the most traumatic injury of Blunck’s career shook his wife and his family, and had him questioning if he could and would continue competing at the level he had become accustomed to. A naturally gifted freeskier, Blunck has a unique mindset when it comes to preparing for the sport’s biggest competitions. His love of solitude, storm days and skiing with like-minded individuals are often his methods of choice. Although this may seem like a foreign training approach to some, his countless podium appearances over the years are a testament to his inherent ability and pure love for the sport of skiing. In The Bulldog, we hit the road with Blunck on a two-week, cross-country road trip, during which he recounts two-and-a-half years of ups and downs, while we discover the intricate details that make him tick, as told by his wife Morgan.
It was far from a given. Although freeride skis from HEAD had been around for a while, they never put down roots in the community. “We had tried before, but to be honest, at that time we were not a relevant brand in freeride,” says René Harrer, Director of Global Sales and Marketing Ski division. “This was more or less the last chance for us.”
A taskforce was formed, the freeride team summoned, and many long days of building and testing later, a new ski was born. The combination of lightness and control was unprecedented, and the story of KORE had begun.
To complete the package of the successful Kore skis, we felt the duty to join forces internally once again. Bringing together engineers, athletes, and designers, we succeeded in developing a new KORE Boot.
